"This is the best paper for popularising fashion," said art-book-publisher Gerhard Steidl from Goettingen, Germany, about the Hahnemuehle Natural Line paper for offset printing. And he said this sentence to Claire Linglart and Anne Billy, representing the Paris based fashion label Chanel. As Chanel put major emphasis on the manufacturing of their products in special manufactories, the Chanel representatives opted for also looking around at Hahnemuehle. After all, the hand-made Chanel purses come with brochures made of our paper.
Another project of Gerhard Steidl will be an hommage to the traditional handicrafts. Three books are supposed to be created in cooperation with South African photographer Koto Bolofo: on traditional papermaking, printing and book-binding. The papermaking pictures will be shot exclusively at Hahnemuehle.
It is supposed to become a regular feature: the Hahnemuehle Lecturer Day - once or twice a year. The 'test run' with Berlin based artists Susanne Haun and Cordula Kerlikowski proved to be a major success. They visited Hahnemuehle in late February and were thrilled: "Even for us artists, witnessing the manufacturing of the precious papers step by step was something very special. We work with this medium day by day and recommend our pupils using good paper right from the start. By visiting the Hahnemuehle papermaking, we have gained a lot of insight and exclusive knowledge," concluded Susanne Haun and Cordula Kerlikowski. In their blogs as well as at Facebook and Twitter, the two artists cover their visit extensively.
'Culinary Delights' is the mouth-watering topic of this year's Hahnemuehle watercolour contest. Wanted are colourful specialties on Hahnemuehle paper. The deadline: 30th June, 2012. The first pictures, provided as digital data, for the time being, already have been sent in: elaborate seafood dishes, Mediterranean fruit, painted so real that they make you want to bite into them - or just plain cooking. When it comes to the third international watercolour contest for the Hahnemuehle Art Calendar 2013, the dishes also have to be a feast for the eye. So don't hesitate to also paint and enter your picture for the contest! Please click here for the detailed entry conditions.
