Brazil: encontro - encounter
Patricia Parinejad exhibit architectural photographs of Oscar Niemeyer´s buildings
|
German-Persian photographer PATRICIA PARINEJAD exhibiting a selection of photographs at the Niteroi's Museum of Contemporary Art, Rio de Janeiro composed in the context of a comprehensive photographic essay of Oscar Niemeyer's buildings during the last five years. Oscar Niemeyer is one of the most renowned architects of our time, whose remarkable lifework can be admired in different countries around the world. This exhibition "encontro " (encounter) represents a very special occasion since it will actually be held in one of Niemeyer's architectural masterpieces marking the celebration of his 103rd birthday. Patricia Parinejad's work takes a remarkable and unusual view of Niemeyer's architecture. Instead of aiming to achieve a sleek and stylish result focusing on formal structures - as so often is the case in architectural photography - she prefers a more vivid approach focusing affectionately on momentary details but also taking a look at Protective, benign, aging, patient, stoic, dreaming, reaching out to the stars, wise, sometimes a little abashed. intimate details and close-ups, contexts with nature and human beings, documenting the flow of reflections, light and shadow, visualizing dimensions, reinforcing his own vision and paying tribute to this great central figure of Brazilian architectural modernism and the people of his country." Parinejad's enchanting photographs demonstrates that great architecture is much more than glass, reinforced concrete, wood and iron, but creates bonds, provides shelter and inspires love. Exhibition : December 12th 2010 - March 13th 2011 at Niteroi’s Museum of Contemporary Art, Rio de Janeiro

Italy: Charitable exhibition on Harman by Hahnemühle papers
Haiti, the Melancholy of Shadows by Moises Saman
|
Hahnemühle took part in a fund raising project in Milan to support the earthquake area of Haiti. Our Milan based partner Shades International printed the charitable exhibition on the new paper portfolio HARMAN by Hahnemühle. "The massive earthquake that leveled most of Port-au-Prince and its surroundings on January 12th was catastrophic even by Haitian standards. In the immediate aftermath, downtown Port-au-Prince became a surreal stage in what resembled a theatre of the macabre", stated photographer Moises Saman. The printed images struck a cord within all the visitors and were sold at the opening on June 16th at Spazio Tadini (Milan). The revenues were forwarded to the Red Cross.

Hahnemühle becomes the First Digital Fine Art Paper in Space
Photography journeys to the International Space Station, sponsored by Hahnemühle
|
On November 11th 2009, a photograph by Elaine Duigenan was printed on Hahnemühle Photo Rag® and flown to the International Space Station aboard Shuttle Atlantis. It was then photographed floating in the weightlessness of space, in the window of the Destiny Lab with Earth below. The London based photographer captures beautiful patterns in nature, which seem to replicate on both micro and cosmic scales. Her images are featured at the V&A Museum, and are printed exclusively on Hahnemühle paper. In her extraordinary work, the photographer focuses on capturing strangely familiar items and transforming them through photography and the making of fine prints; "Small etchings on the side of a derelict building can look like entire swathes of earth from the air." The chosen image is drawn from the new series, MICRO MUNDI (Small Worlds). In these photographs depicting the trails made when snails eat algae, the captured patterns begin to take on the form of the earth as if photographed from above. This exciting connection is highlighted by the images taken at the Space Station, with the World below. In their ongoing support of excellence and fine art photography, Hahnemühle are delighted sponsor the unique exhibition which will be exhibited at KLOMPCHING in New York, opening June 17th 2010. Duigenan comments, "Many people say they love the quality of my photography with its rich blacks, making it akin to an etching. The print is just as important to me as the initial image. Hahnemühle's beautiful fine art papers have the quality, weight and feel to ideally complement the delicacy of my images, so the pairing is ideal." For further information please visit: |

Pedro Meyer - Heresies
An ultimate project
|
The retrospective of the work of Latin-American photographer Pedro Meyer has attracted worldwide attention. In October 2009, ‘Heresies’ (heresy) was presented simultaneously in 65 museums and highlights the dynamic areas between reality and fiction. For the production of the total of 3,500 images, the company HP provided the most sophisticated Design Jet "Z" series printers. All the pictures were printed on Hahnemühle Photo Rag®. The use of pigment ink on pure cotton paper ensures the prints’ durability for 200 years. The exhibition concept is just as revolutionary as the project’s extent. Famous curators viewed over 300,000 pictures to then come up with a representative selection, resulting in 23 exhibitions featuring different topics. Afterwards, each of the museums involved made its individual choice that was included in the respective museum’s permanent exhibition. Now 65 Museums have work of Pedro Meyer in their permanent collections, all printed on Hahnemühle papers. |

Hahnemühle Bamboo – first resource-saving Fine Art paper
|
For the worldwide launch of the first Fine Art inkjet paper made from bamboo fibres, Hahnemuehle works together with the well-known photographer Justin Guariglia. His internationally sought-after spiritual images from Shaolin Temple in China will be showed around the world in a traveling exhibition and printed on Bamboo’s product green box. The oldest German art paper mill has succeeded in developing a premium, soft Fine Art paper from ultra-pure bamboo fibres and pure spring water. The natural white paper with a warm tone combines spiritual photography with environmental considerations. This paper opens up a entirely new artistic and spiritual dimension in Fine Art printing. Bamboo 290 is the 23rd paper from the international award-winning Hahnemuehle Digital FineArt Collection and renders the sensual connection between art and paper in a palpable and visible way. Justin Guariglia on the new paper: “When the Aperture Foundation approached me to create an international traveling exhibition of our book Shaolin: Temple of Zen, I turned to Hahnemuehle for a paper that would reflect the spirit of the project. The Bamboo 290 paper was my immediate first choice. Its beautiful warmth and texture imbues every print with an unsurpassed feeling of intimacy and energy. These qualities allow us to accurately share the sacred and sublime spirit of this fifteen-hundred year old Chinese Zen temple with audiences around the world." The traveling exhibition “Shaolin: Temple of Zen”, organised by the American Aperture Foundation and supported by Hahnemuehle, will be on tour in the USA and later in Europe from 2008 to 2011. The first stages are Los Angeles, in February and March 2008, and Washington DC from June to September 2008. Allegories & Macabresques - portrait exhibition by Andrzej Dragan printed on Photo Rag® 460
|
Allegories & Macabresques is eighteen portraits (2004-2007) introducing David Lynch holding a hen, Mads Mikkelsen watching an embryo of a little cat, Jan Peszek over an old watch or Jerzy Urban with a naked woman and a Cuban cigar. The presented collection is an effect of a struggle of the author with a message of Portuguese proverb that says: Those who see faces do not see hearts. It is also a summary of three years of international work. Opening of the exhibition and vernisage begins at September, 7th 2007, in Lipinski Gallery in Warsaw. It is organised by Reinhold and European Academy of Photography and sponsored by Epson and Hahnemuehle who provide materials and Book & Art preparing the highest quality archival gallery prints ever known. The exhibit will last till September, 28th and in the same time will be shown in Warsaw’s subway gallery. After that it will be shown in Copenhagen, Milan, Cracow and later in Skopie, Tetovo, Poznan, Amsterdam and other galleries across Europe. “Before choosing Hahnemuehle Photo Rag® 460 I have made several print tests on other professional papers. What persuaded me to use PhotoRag® was the possibility to obtain a great depth of the dark tones - especially with the black & white images. My photographs are usually dark, therefore the quality of the details in the low spectrum is crucial. I have noticed that the prints on Photo Rag® paper do not reveal any reflections of light in the dark areas even when looking from a sharp angle - as other papers do. Black is always uniformly black - from any angle. Therefore the low-key images remain deeply dark while keeping details perfectly visible. This is extremely important if you want to enhance the impact and color dynamics of highly-contrasted photographs”, stated photographer Andrzej Dragan. More information on the artist Andrzej Dragan |
