Artist’s papers from the oldest German mould made paper mill have been delighting painters all over the world for more than 420 years. Since 1786 Hahnemühle has produced watercolor papers – although the traditional papermaking craft has been practised at the company since it was founded in 1584.
Just in time for Paperworld 2006 Hahnemühle FineArt GmH has extended its product range of Akademie Watercolor papers. The two new paper qualities named Veneto and Andalucía have a totally new genuine mould made character. The papers are a premiere, as they possess a completely new watercolor structure.
“The front of each sheet features the structure and elegance and also flow properties of high quality mould made paper. The reverse side possesses a matte structure thereby offering hobby or professional painters a matte side for interesting painting effects, in addition to the rough side “, explained Norbert Klinke, Head of Hahnemühle FineArt Sales and Marketing. A new felt in the Hahnemühle Fourdrinier paper making machine has made this possible: for the first time both front and reverse sides of the Akademie watercolor papers can be used for watercolor techniques.
The new “Veneto” and “Andalucía” pads with their melodious names fit in with the extensive Hahnemühle product range. Veneto describes the landscape around Venice. A picture of the city by the well-known German artist Ekkehardt Hofmann decorates the pad cover. He was also involved in the development of the paper quality and in choosing the product name. With the Andalucía pad Hahnemühle has named a paper for the first time after a Spanish landscape. With a grammage of 325 gsm for Veneto or 500 gsm for Andalucía Hahnemühle FineArt has adopted the current trend for heavy painting papers. The heavier the paper or board the better it retains its flatness on a table or easel during painting.
The new paper qualities from Hahnemühle FineArt are available in the popular pad sizes 24 x 32 cm, 30 x 40 cm, 36 x 468 cm and 42 x 56 cm. In addition sheets are available in sizes 50 x 65 cm or 70 x 100 cm.
The Hahnemühle paper mill has been producing quality artist’s papers for over 420 years. Since its founding in 1584 they have developed experience and a tradition of excellence in art materials that is now been brought to the digital age, and fine art InkJet printing. The German based company whose headquarters are in Dassel, has 150 employees worldwide.
