For the worldwide launch of the first Fine Art inkjet paper made from bamboo fibres, Hahnemuehle works together with the well-known photographer Justin Guariglia. His internationally sought-after spiritual images from Shaolin Temple in China will be showed around the world in a traveling exhibition and printed on Bamboo’s product green box.
The oldest German art paper mill has succeeded in developing a premium, soft Fine Art paper from ultra-pure bamboo fibres and pure spring water. The natural white paper with a warm tone combines spiritual photography with environmental considerations. This paper opens up a entirely new artistic and spiritual dimension in Fine Art printing. Bamboo 290 is the 23rd paper from the international award-winning Hahnemuehle Digital FineArt Collection and renders the sensual connection between art and paper in a palpable and visible way.
Justin Guariglia on the new paper: “When the Aperture Foundation approached me to create an international traveling exhibition of our book Shaolin: Temple of Zen, I turned to Hahnemuehle for a paper that would reflect the spirit of the project. The Bamboo 290 paper was my immediate first choice. Its beautiful warmth and texture imbues every print with an unsurpassed feeling of intimacy and energy. These qualities allow us to accurately share the sacred and sublime spirit of this fifteen-hundred year old Chinese Zen temple with audiences around the world."
The traveling exhibition “Shaolin: Temple of Zen”, organized by the American Aperture Foundation and supported by Hahnemuehle, will be on tour in the USA and later in Europe from 2008 to 2011. The first stages are Los Angeles, in February and March 2008, and Washington DC from June to September 2008.

Allegories & Macabresques is eighteen portraits (2004-2007) introducing David Lynch holding a hen, Mads Mikkelsen watching an embrio of a little cat, Jan Peszek over and old watch or Jerzy Urban with a naked woman and a Cuban cigar. The presented collection is an effect of a struggle of the author with a message of Portugese proverb that says: Those who see faces do not see hearts. It is also a summary of three years of international work.
Opening of the exhibition and vernisage begins at September, 7th 2007, in Lipinski Gallery in Warsaw. It is organised by Reinhold and European Academy of Photography and sponsored by Epson and Hahnemuehle who provide materials and Book & Art preparing the highest quality archival gallery prints ever known. After that it will be shown in Copenhagen, Milan, Cracow and later in Skopie, Tetovo, Poznan, Amsterdam and other galleries across Europe.
“Before choosing Hahnemuehle Photo Rag® 460 I have made several print tests on other professional papers. What persuaded me to use PhotoRag® was the possibility to obtain a great depth of the dark tones - especially with the black & white images. My photographs are usually dark, therefore the quality of the details in the low spectrum is crucial. I have noticed that the prints on Photo Rag® paper do not reveal any reflections of light in the dark areas even when looking from a sharp angle - as other papers do. Black is always uniformly black - from any angle. Therefore the low-key images remain deeply dark while keeping details perfectly visible. This is extremely important if you want to enhance the impact and color dynamics of highly-contrasted photographs”, stated photographer Andrzej Dragan.

Once a month, a family being served by the pediatric branch of Hospice is invited to Walden’s studio for a portrait sitting. These families receive a meaningful and priceless photograph to cherish. Walden’s relationship with the pediatric branch of Hospice is what makes this program possible and so special to many families.
Tim Walden of Walden’s Photography in Lexington, KY designed the program “Images That Speak.” The program gives beautiful, archival black and white images freely and lovingly to courageous families who care for their children with life-limiting illnesses. Walden started this exclusive program three years ago as a way to give back to the community and to give families in need a memorable gift.
Tim uses Hahnemuhle FineArt Pearl for his images. Hahnemuhle FineArt is proud to be working with Walden and is excited about sponsoring his program and reaching out to the community.
Don MacGregor, of MacGregor Studios, wanted to demonstrate hospitality to International delegates at this years Imaging USA show, in Texas. He decided to honor them by giving them each a printed image at a cocktail reception during the show. With the help of fellow colleagues and other members of the Professional Photographers of America (PPA), Don printed 20 images on Hahnemuhle FineArt Pearl 285 to give out to the International delegates. He wanted to offer them respect and friendship by showing respect to photography as well as the host country. The images were a big hit and loved by all. They were displayed and passed around to share. One recipient commented, they were not “pictures” anymore… they were fine art pieces.
Don MacGregor is head of the International committee for PPA and a respected photographer. At this year’s Imaging USA he received the Ross Sandaal International award.

The photographer of MAGNUM agency, Gilles Peress, one of the leading representatives of socially committed reporters, prepared two photo exhibitions especially for the opening of the C/O Berlin Gallery. In his exhibition entitled “Beyond Borders”, Gilles Peress presented photographs depicting the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 in the form of an interactive photograph and book installation. This series was shown alongside other projects realized in Bosnia in the nineties. On the Potsdam Square, also ten selected motifs related to the fall of the Berlin wall were presented on the authentic fragment of the wall.
This multi-faceted, vast exhibition project gained great interest and recognition of both the people of Berlin and foreigners who visited it. This interactive project required active participation of visitors and the result exceeded the boldest expectations: what remained is hundreds of pages recording personal impressions and memories connected with the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. They all made up a large book of photos entitled “The Fall”.
The Hahnemühle FineArt GmbH company supported this project by donating the Digital FineArt Paper Photo Rag 308 paper for high quality photograph printing and a related interactive book publication project.

“Paper visits the theatre” – under this slogan Hahnemühle FineArt GmbH supported theatrical performances during Gandersheimer Domfestspiele for the first time in 2004. In the health resort of Bad Gandersheim – located close to our company headquarters – the open-air theatre festival has been organized every summer for 46 years. In front of the impressive cathedral, various theatre and recently also opera performances are shown each year.
Hahnemühle also played an important role in them.
Set design and masques were made of the materials donated by our company. During the 2004 season, Hahnemühle paper had its “great show” in the performances of “Parzival” and the „Magic Flute”. Hahnemühle FineArt GmbH will continue to work with the Gandersheimer Domfestspielen, the organizers of the festival, in the years to come.
“I use Hahnemühle paper in many different ways – not only for original drawings and watercolors but also to publish works. As an artist – sometimes unfortunately – I am a perfectionist and therefore I make more demands on the material used. While searching for a proper base to publish his own, original works of art, an artist encounters many limitations particularly in the case of paper, due to its properties such as color, resistance and printability. I can easily overcome these limitations with Hahnemühle paper and I hope to plunge into the depths of a “new world” with Hahnemühle.
