Pen drawings require smooth, homogenous surfaces to execute the finest details. Sizing must be of the highest quality to guarantee precise lines that don’t run. Some pens scratch the surface of the paper. Despite this the ink must adhere cleanly. The surface must also be tough enough to cope with repeated erasures and sharp correcting nibs. The correcting stroke must also be precise.
