Description My watercolor portrait of Daphne reimagined in a subtle style with a subdued color palette. Daphne was a beautiful Naiad, a water nymph typically associated with springs, streams, or wells. She is best known for her determined flight from the amorous god Apollo. Preferring her independence and the freedom of the hunt, she prayed for escape as he pursued her and was transformed into a laurel tree (daphne in Greek). (In the painting, this is symbolised is a head dress made of laurel leaves, painted with metallic watercolors). This transformation immortalized her and made the laurel sacred to Apollo, becoming a symbol of victory, honor, and poetic inspiration.
